Vaccination on 5th Parity of Sow

Hi Doc,
Good Day. Naka acquire me ng sow na buntis on her 5th parity.
The vaccinatin given by the owner before were Hog Cholera and Vitamins.
We are about to inject also Vitamins and deworm by Saturday( 2/14 ).
The sow is due for farrowing by the end of Feb or first week of March.
Ask ko lang po Doc, after the sow farrow, do we have to inject oxytocin or lutalyse
and how many ml or cc ? Aside from that we will be injecting also antibiotic just after she farrows?
As per the previous owner, HCV and Vit lang ang binibigay nila at wala ng iba.

Injecting oxytocin is optional. Some like to give oxytocin so the inunan would be expelled faster. But it would be added cost. The inunan will usually be expelled naman 24 hrs after farrowing.

Lutayse is being used to induced farrowing. Another use is to make the animal return to heat faster. This is optional also.

Different manufacturer have different dosage usually it will range 2 ml to 5 ml.

After farrowing antibiotic should be given.

7 days after farrowing you give the sow e.coli vaccine, then at 2nd week parvo virus then 3rd week hog cholera. After that continue with the usual vaccination for "pregnant sow" that i have sent you.

We have previously acquired Oxytocin and Lutalyse. I want to use this medication since I cannot return it to the
supplier anymore. Please teach me how to implement it on the sow.. The right time to inject and how many ml. ?
Ex: 1) Oxytocin right after farrowing together with antibiotic, how many ml ?
       2) Lutalyse how many days after farrowing and how many ml in order the sow will come to heat again ?

Hi Doc,
Good news. I was in the farm since Friday and went home today. Our sow farrowed last Saturday ( 2/28/09), at around
330pm. She farrowed 16 piglets alive anf 1 mummified. Tha average wt of 16 piglets is 1.22kg, the biggest weighs 1.6kg
and the smallest 0.80 kg at 4 sila.

Doc , I just want to confirm the vaccination program on 5th parity which you answer on this forum. I will proceed
with your vaccination program as per advice ?

Yup.

If you want to expand your sow i would suggest to monitor this batch of piglets. If they grow fast and not prone to disease, you could choose from this batch a possible gilt.

usually the recommendation is to choose from first or 2nd parity but in your case this is the first time that they farrowed in your care,  so you can make an exception.

The only problem is that the sow has 14 teats ( nipples ) and she has 16 piglets. So what we did,
we assigned 3 persons to take care of the piglets 24 hrs a day. They will make sure that all the piglets has
suck milk from their mother. Otherwise, those that are small cannot suck milk.

Hi Doc,
Sad to say but we have 2 mortality of piglets already.
This happens everytime we vaccinate and the following day there is mortality.
(After 3 days from birth, we injected iron, the next day we have 1 mortality.
On the 7th day, we inject mycoplasma, the following day 1 mortality.) Iyong mga maliliit
ang namamatay.
Also the piglets have wounds on knees and below, 2- have bukol sa paa, pero
malambot. Sabi ng iba talagang ganyan na magka sugat sa tuhod dahil sa pagdede sa
inahin kasi nag aagawan at magka bukol sa paa. Ano kaya ang magandang remedy
para maiwasan ang mga ganitong pangyayari ?

It is better na the weakling dies early rather than cost you more and die later on.

From the picture you send me, i think most of the wounds are caused by the bamboo flooring. Splinters from this could cut the knee, feet of the animal.

If you change the bamboo flooring to plastic or cast iron then it would be better.

Any antibiotic will do but usually penicillin or tetracycline, amoxicillin, ampicillin, oxytetra, chlortetra etc...

LA- stands for long acting drugs,  usually kasi ang mga drugs ay nirerepeat ang injection everyday. IN terms of LA drugs you could give it every other day or depending sa recommendation of the drug company.
