Blue Ear Disease:

Doc.It is my understanding that blue ear disease first showed up when hogs were forced to live closer together in confinement.At first it was called a mystery disease.Is there something about the housing of the hogs in smaller spaces,ammonia levels too high??

It is a viral disease. Like any disease if an area is over crowded outbreak of disease could happen.
So far there is vaccine for PRRS but still there are some question about it cross immunity. Unlike hog cholera, PRRS have many subtype and cross immunity is not yet well established. So, some farm that use commercial vaccine sometimes failed to elicit good immunity because they have different type of virus  /subtype in their farm compared to those in the vaccine they use.

Thanks for the info. Doc.so to make a long story short,if blue ear disease shows up at your farm,start praying for a miracle.

Yes... ;D ;D ;D

You could employ feed back immunity. You will feed the aborted fetus to the gilt and sow to elicit immunity. BUt the sad part your farm is now PRRS positive.

Yup, it had.

SOme speculate that the outbreak last year is not only hog cholera, swine flu, but also PRRS.
Because they have found some farms that is positive to this disease.

Just to recap, during those times the government are saying that it is only the backyard raisers which have been hit. But now, according to the vets and consultant some farms are also hit.

And they are having problem managing it. Because of the lack of facility that we have or lack of coordination from the public, private and government sector.

Doc pano po ba ang procedure ng feedback immunity/aclimatization?
