Crossing for Pasture Hogs

I have had this idea for sometime.Crossing native boars onto white sows and selecting those that are the biggest and dark color coated and raising them outside as pasture hogs over cage raising.From a breeding standpoint,males can be smaller but the females must be larger in order to produce larger offsprings.Raising natural hogs other than the pure natives is a goal we would like to try.Not sure how growth will be affected with the native blood in them but through selection one might find the odd one that shows promise.I am sure that this has been tried before and maybe someone in this group might shred some information on such a crossing.

the usual is crossing white boar to native sow.

the problem in crossing native boar to white sow is that native is too small they cannot reach the right position during mating....

if you want a pasture pig , duroc is a good candidate

I have had in the past the results of mating white boars onto native females but the offsprings are small when grown out.When mules or jackasses are produce,mating of male donkey onto horse mares the end result is large mules/jackass but sterile.I have seen ramps built for the donkey so he can reach the heated mares with success.You are right Doc,able to reach is going to be a problem but with a ramp this should be okay.There seems to be a move in country today for more natural livestocks and some people are doing very well with poultry like the 45 day chicken grown out to over 60 days and better tasting meat.

There is a breed of hog in the west, the American black hog that is a pasture hog,am hoping that a native male crossed onto white females might produce something similar and the dark pigment would allow for outside living.Just an idea I am working on.On the other hand,might be more over a fantasy over realism.

a few years back there was a breed in the Phillippines that they call black dalland, not sure it is really a dalland , duroc , or largeblack.
it is all black and yet it is big.
