need ideas on how to build a low cost shelter for hogs
« on: November 04, 2007, 02:56:15 AM »
Doc,maybe some of our new members(hog farmers) need some ideas on how to build low cost shelters for their hog(s) business including myself.
The wife and I need to build some low cost shelters for our fatteners now,we plan to raise hogs to 4 months old,our other barns are costly to construct (sow barns),was thinking maybe to build each one 16 X 24 with cement floors but this time using 4 X8 sheets of plywood for the inside, bamboo enclosed for the outside and using copra leaf for the roofs in the short term. How many hogs could live in each 16 X 24 pens at 4 months old.Is there any plans on low cost(s) shelters we could view.
Good Day Doc.                          mikey

The basic for fattening is 1 square meter per animal.

You could use bamboo and Copra leafs. Although be sure that when the storm comes your copra leafs won't fly with the wind. Don't use a plywood . See picture, sorry medyo maliit medyo having trouble pa rin with our new server. Just right click then view image para masmalaki.

Problem with this set up is that pigs tend to bite the bamboo when bored. To solve this give or put a whole coconut in the pen. The coconut will then be their play ball when bored.

Yup saw dust yun. kaso not intended to be permanent ginamit lang nung sobrang lamig ng panahon.

Sa sukat kasi iba iba ang recomendation. Meron article about this sa download section. Pakidownload nalang

It depends siguro kung gaano kalaki.  Sa ibang country kasi if i am not mistaking every harvest nag papalit sila or every now and then nagdadagdag sila.

One variation is semento pero may butas butas at kung time ng taglamig takpan lang yun butas. Same as grill pag malamig masyado ginagamitan naman ng sako as panabing.
