Chicken:
total chicken inventory as of Jan.1/07 was estimated at 135.0 million birds or 0.5% bigger than the 2006 level.Broiler and layer recorded inventory increases of 6.3 and 9.0% respectively.However native/improved chicken inventory dropped by 4.2% compared with last years stock of 76.9 million birds.Chicken production at 1.20 million metric tons registered a 0.8% decrease in 2006.This was evidenced by lower volume of chicken broilers in commercial farms that were affected by typhoons Milenyo and Reming.Chicken egg production grew by 3.11% in 2006.There was a higher inventory of layers and an improved egg laying efficiency ratio.Chicken and chicken egg production contributed 14.0% to gross agricultural output.Annual gross value of chicken output continued to post gains and this years increase was 2.85% due to price appreciation.Gross earning from chicken eggs went up by 11.03% during the period.

Duck:
the countrys total volume of duck production at 45.99 metric tons liveweight in 2006 decreased by 6.87% against 2005.The duck egg production also dropped by 6.02% compared to 2005 level.Total duck population as of Jan.1/07 was lower by 8.85% in comparison with last years headcount.This is due to the decrease in population in backyard farms by 13.40%.Total inventory,72.86% came from backyard farms,27.14% came from commercial farms.The 2006 average farmgate price of duck at P58.08 was 7.06% lower than the year ago level.Price quotation went down to P58.08 from P62.50 per kg.Price range was from P56.52-P59.76 per kilo.The 2006 duck egg prices per dozen at the farmgate and retail levels increased from last years levels by 2.91% and 5.68%,respectively.

2007 report: Dept. of Agriculture:
the poultry subsector recorded a 0.41% growth during the reference period.The chicken industry managed to grow by 0.62%.The gross value of poultry output was estimated at P80.8 billion at current prices and was 6.45% more than the 2006 record.This year (2007),the subsector accounted for 13.80% of total agriculture output.
