Pregnant gilt injected w/ vaccine against pnuemonia
« on: May 12, 2009, 08:42:39 PM »
Gud day Doc!

Our gilt was mated with a boar last May 7, 2009, and the piglets nearby the pen of the gilt was infected with Pneumonia (according from the vet), and since I was afraid that the gilt would be infected with the disease it was also injected with RespiSure for Pneumonia..

What would be the effect of the vaccine to the gilt and if the mating was successful, what would be the effect to the pigs inside?

thank you..

general effect nito is the development of immunity against mycoplasma.

Just remember that the welfare of the sow/gilt is always the priority and not the piglet inside it.

Worst case scenario pregnancy will not continue.

If the pregnancy will not continue, what should I do? when could the gilt be mated again? will it just reheat after 21 days?

newbie po kasi ako sa business na to...

Yes it will reheat after 21 days if pregnancy is terminated.

As a rule check your animal in the 21 days and 42 days after breeding to see if it will reheat.

Doc nakakaabort ba talaga ang oxytetracycline sa newly bred sow? I injected terramycin 1 day before I bred my sow and I injected again 5 days after. May foot rot kasi.

Almost all antibiotic could cause abortion but you must always remember that the welfare of the sow will always be the top priority. So, inject antibiotic even if the sow is pregnant or give oral antibiotic.

Anyway, it is not automatic naman na if you will give antibiotic the sow will abort. Like i said it could cause abortion but not all the time.
