I have red that in some parts of the USA,milk is worth more than gasoline.Some claim there is a world shortage of milk and prices will climb.The Philippines is a major importer of milk and milk products,this maybe the thing us dairy goat farmers have been waiting for.

Skyrocketing milk prices hit families just in time for school

CANTON, Georgia (CNN) -- Record-high milk prices are stinging Americans at the dairy case, just as millions of thirsty school children are returning to classes.


The average retail price of a gallon of whole milk has never been higher -- $3.80 a gallon -- according to July Department of Agriculture statistics. Experts blame the price spike -- up 51 cents since February -- on milk shortages in Europe and Australia.

Prices are approaching $5 a gallon in Georgia, where on a sweltering summer day last week, about 100 children and parents toured Mark Cagle's dairy farm north of Atlanta.

Tim and Beth Byington wrangled their two preschool children around the farm, surrounded by mooing Holsteins.

How much would this goat milk adventure cost to set up?

Mr Hog,good to hear from you,goats are more work than hogs,housing can be copra and bamboo wood,good breeding stock is not cheap,a good anglo doe will cost you between 10 & 20 thousand pesos each,crossbreeds are cheaper but you need a good fullblood buck(s).A knowledgeable goat caretaker is the key to a good operation,feed for dairy goats is commercial concentrates with greens,one needs some land to plant the greens.We tried many homemade local and national concentrates with no luck,buy commercial concentrates,more money.Dairy goats require energy to produce milk,lets see what the future holds for all of us dairy/meat goat producers in the Philippines,5 goats eat approx. the same as 1 cow,but give more milk than 1 cow.In the process now of bringing the goats BCS (body condition score) up for breeding through the rainy season,a chance we are gambling on.

According to my friend in around region 12 area,milk is selling for 20 pesos for 200ml.works out to 100 pesos per litre if one can find it,this is retail prices.Supply is still limited.

Dairy Industry Performance Report Jan.-Dec.2006
the countrys dairy animal inventory as of Jan. 1,2007 was estimated at 26.172 head (think they are talking about dairy cows).It was up by 1.65% compared with last years level.A remarkable increase in cattle inventory was noted with the 7.0% increment over last years headcount.Total milk production for 2006 reached 12.79 million litres,up by 3.63% from last years output.This growth was attributed to the 4.96% increment in cow milk production.Total volume of dairy imports in 2006 was 1,773 thousand metric tons valued at 457.30 million US dollars.Compared with 2005 levels,volume and value of imports increased by 10.21% and 8.54% respectively.There were also increases in the volume and value of exported processed dairy products by 4.55 and 19.25% respectively.
