Hi Doc Nemo,
Can you please help me explaining regarding the boar footbath? What are the veterinary medicines
needed and applied and how this it is done for what purpose?
Thanks,
Nick
Yes you can start to breed it on it's second heat. Especially if the animal is on the 110-130 kg already.
You can also use your largewhite boar.
There are times that first parity(unang anakan) have small number of piglets born, it is normal. It will increase on the 2nd and 3rd etc..

Foot bath is usually place in the entrance of every barn house or pen housing of the animal.
IT is a shallow pool of disinfectant on which people will dip their shoes (disinfectant is usually sole height) before entering a particular housing. This will reduce the chance of transfer of diseases from one housing to another and transfer of bacteria from the outside going in.
You may also put foot bath on the main gate of your property.

Thanks Doc,
But my question is on the care of a boar.
How do we prevent the cracking of boar's hoof and foot rot?
Thanks,
Nick

Ah okay, sorry my mistake.
Foot rot is caused fusobacterium and also some mixed infection with other fungal organism.
The flooring should always be dry and clean. It should also be slip free but not too rough.
IF the floor is too rough it might cause some breakage in the nail of the boar and bacteria would set in. If the floor is to slippery it might cause sprain to the animal or cuts in its leg.
Bathing your animal with soap especially the leg part would help.
In cases that you experience foot rot this are some of the things you could do.
You could use spray antiseptic for the foot rot.
Sometimes what i would do i flush the feet with antibiotic then use gusanex spray to it.
You could put beddings to the floor so it would help alleviate stress/pressure in the problem feet.

Hi Doc,
Ask ko lang if it is true that "pigsa" can cause death to pigs. Meron kasi pigsa sa paa
ang boar. What causes "pigsa", is this the same "pigsa" to human beings? How can we prevent
it?
Thanks Doc.

I haven't had a case on which an animal die from pigsa/boil.
It is cause of bacteria like strep which is also the same bacteria that cause boil in human. ALthough in animal it is not only strep but mixed infection can cause it.
usually rough surface / protruding metal in the pen is the cause of boil or over used needle that we used for injection can cause it.
For my opinion it is almost normal to see boil in a given farm but usually the economic impact is not that detrimental.
In your case your problem is more of the leg. You can drain the pigsa and flush it with antibiotic. and also can give anti-inflammatory.
The possibility of death is always there but in my case like i said i have never encountered one.
