Well 2009 started off poorly. The export of pork to Singapore looks doubtful,Singapore consumers for the present time will be worried about buying from the Philippines. Most Asian countries have already placed a ban on any pork products from the country.Any future exports is still up in the air.Retail sellers in some areas are reporting sales off by as much as 50% now due to the ebola scare.Inventory levels of hogs are still high enough to supply the domestic market with pork. The consumer will be the deciding factor, should the consumer stop buying pork the inventory will increase, too much inventory usually results in lower prices and heavy culling as more farmers decide to quit the business and look or more profitable ventures.Other sources of protein will look more favorable to the average consumer, sometimes it means more importation of different protein sources. Those farms that qualified for exporting pork and the capital investment made, one has to feel sorry for them. The backyard hog operations never did nor will qualify for the export market only domestic market.Asia sure has had her problems lately with all the hog diseases and viruses, one has to wonder what will happen next. Will be interesting to watch how it all unfolds.Interesting times ahead.Brazil is an agriculture powerhouse and will capitalize on any weakness it sees and fill any vaccum that other Asian countries are unable to export, beef, pork, chicken.
