Piggery Business

Hi guys...
I've just registered with your forum and this is a bit of an introduction on my part. I've visited Philippines end of August and just fell totally in love with the country.
Now I'm in the process of applying for permanent residency and at the same time doing lots of research into lots and the possibility of setting up a piggery business.
It is my intention to start with round about 150 -200 head herd...I know it's going to take lots of preparation work and capital, but I'm ok with that.
Research will continue and learn as much as possible before April 2008 when I'm back in Philippines to look at property....oh....and I must also learn Tagalog...so that I can follow the forum topics here...

Hi Mr Hog,
It would be sows...as to the area, not quite sure yet, remember, I've been there only once before...and just for 10 days...not enough time to tour the whole country...but the net is a great help...and I have many Filipino co-workers, and they are being extremely helpful in educating me as to the better areas.
And yes...this forum really has excellent information...A big salamat to all posters.

150 to 200 sows, talking some serious money here,$200.000.00 CDN.Look at this way will cost you approx. $1000.00 plus per sow to bring them on line.Understanding Philippine Realestate Law,Outsiders can not own land, only the building(s) on that piece of land.Your Philippine Spouse would have to have the title under her name or her family s name.
Good Luck

Good news to those who are from Canada. Canadian dollar now is much higher than US dollar here in the Philippines.

Yup according to the Philippine law foreigner cannot own a land. They can only rent it. So, if you have a Filipina wife then you have to let her own the land for you.

Hi all,
Thanks for the welcome and encouraging words...I do realize that I have a long way to go before I'm actually in the Philippines and setting up. I have in the interim, downloaded some residency visa forms from the government website...and they could be a possibility in the form of a "special investor's residency visa", but I'm looking at all the options available to me.
In the meantime, I will continue to learn as much as I can from your experiences.

I am sure, the Philippine Govt. would set limits on how much land you would be able to purchase for a business venture.Myself I would find that out first, then plane a business of some sort.Hog farming is not cheap to operate, the feeds alone is a major part of producing,Welcome to the club, hope it works out for you.

Piggery business would stay.
Although cost of feeds is increasing , the price of liveweight is also high. In this aspect it equalize everything.
As long as government will prevent smuggled pork from other country like Brazil then it safe to say that piggery business would stay.
