Title: Re: kind of breed Post by: nemo on January 05, 2008, 01:04:57 PM In terms of breed colored pigs are meant as boar, while white ones are for sow.
Colored breed: Pietrain, duroc White breeds: Landrace, largewhite, Hi breed: Dalland, hypor, PIC, etc. The word "best "is a little bit general. All pigs have their pros and cons. When buying a gilt you have to consider two major thing: 1) Pedigree of the animal/ History= ADG: should be not less than 570 grams per day or 85 kgs at 150 days., FCR: less than 2.6, from a sow with good litter and weaning rate etc. 2) Warranty: If your gilt cost 12T above there should be a warranty. What is warranty?: In the event that the gilt couldn't get pregnant or continue reheating then the farm will replace it with another gilt. Some farms give warranty but with some restriction that they will only replace the animal if it is still less than 1 year old. Usually a gilt age is around 6 months and you can bred it at around 8 months. |
