Title: Iron Post by: nemo on December 10, 2007, 01:16:09 PM Iron for piglets.
Iron is given in piglets at 3 day of age. Piglets needed supplemental iron because of the current farm practice that we do now a days. Years back when pigs are still pastured/ roaming, iron supplemental is not required because piglet can get the iron from the ground. The sow’s milk only give around 1 mg of iron per day and feed creeping can give additional iron to them. There are two concentration of iron in the market. One is 100 mg/ml and the other is 200 mg/ml The piglet should be given 2 ml of iron if the concentration is 100 mg per ml . If the concentration is 200 mg/ml the animal should be given 1 ml only. If the animal is already eating solid diets the booster shot of iron at 10 days in not necessary unless you seen paleness in the animal. |
