Title: Re: free range pig Post by: mikey on July 15, 2010, 10:09:57 AM dark pigmented hogs like the Philippine native could be considered a pasture or field hog, free range. The duroc because of its dark colour also considered a free range or pasture hog in N.America.I would never try any white or light pigmented hog that is now in the RP because the sun and heat would cause severe sun burns (cooked hide).

Title: Re: free range pig Post by: mikey on July 17, 2010, 09:16:56 AM considering hogs have no sweat glands one would need some sort of system to allow the hog(s) to regulate their body core temperatures, wallow in mud and water.Interesting that the white hogs are able to handle such high tropical temperatures.Must be some sort of hybrid not a purebreed like the large white or landrace.Interesting.
Title: Re: free range pig Post by: doods on July 24, 2010, 07:38:04 PM doc,
good day...doc how about on our area?can we apply the natural farming(free range hogs) method?no vaccines application, injectables etc...we are from rizal.... Title: Re: free range pig Post by: nemo on July 24, 2010, 07:52:03 PM Can you apply it? the answer is yes.
Pero the problem is rizal have a lot of farms so there is a high risk of disease outbreaks. If you apply natural farming then be prepared for the worst. Natural farming kasi is viable in areas na malayo sa mga commercial farms. Kung malapit kasi mas mabilis silang tamaan ng sakit dahil maaaring maging source ng sakit yun farm na malapit sa inyo.
