Title: need your advices regarding goat breed for slaughter!!!!!!!!! Post by: gerald on December 28, 2010, 07:10:14 PM Good day,
I want to start goat farming business for meat production. We know that boer goat is the ideal breed for it but is it advisable that we use Purebreed Boer goat for slaughter than using native,f1,f2,f3 for slaughter? Will you earn better and faster return of ROI if you will use Purebreed Boer goat than native,f1,f2,f3? considering the live weight gate price now in the Philippines... Hope to hear your feed backs..Happy Holidays... Title: Re: need your advices regarding goat breed for slaughter!!!!!!!!! Post by: mikey on December 29, 2010, 09:49:49 AM Gerald
In truth,in the end all goats end up as meat goats. In general, breeding a purebred boar sire (buck) with native F!s,F2s,F3 upgraded does will produce decent meat goats. One buys the best they can afford to start their breeding program. Over the past few years there has been a move in the USA to cross a boar with dairy does and the offspring bring in higher values than the not wanted dairy goats for dairy. With meat goats its all about ADG,(average daily gain),how fast a producer can raise his goats to market weight. True farm gate prices vary from island to island and the smart producer will seek out his/her own market for their product or start their own goat meat market in their area. Best of luck with your new venture. Title: Re: need your advices regarding goat breed for slaughter!!!!!!!!! Post by: gerald on December 29, 2010, 01:19:20 PM so which is better doc if i will use a purebred buck and doe boer goats for slaughter or i will use a purebred buck pair it to native,f1,f2,f3? you said that it will all come to ADG (average daily gain), how fast it will be ready for market weight, in your opinion and experience if i will use both purebred buck and doe and their offspring will be for slaughter does it mean it will produce better ADG than the other ( purebred buck pairing to native,f1,f2,f3 does)?

But you also need to consider market preference.... some areas prefer animals that weight only around 20-40 kgs. purebreed are usually above that range... some would like the bigger ones 40 kg and above.... in terms on concrete data about breeding and adg i think sir mikey can give more info for he is in the goat business. Post by: mikey on December 30, 2010, 10:13:59 AM From a market point of view, seems to be more percentages of boar blood over purebreeds when it comes to the meat industry in the Philippines. This will change as more and more farmers raise the boar breed for meat.Breeding a purebred boar sire to upgraded does will produce decent goats for meat. The key lies with having a really good sire and the 50% transfer of his genes into his offspring.
There has not been much information published when it comes to size for a given time period. We have been working on reaching the 40kg. mark in 12 months and beyond the 40kg. for a 12 month period. In order to reach the 40kg. weight size everything has to be going right.Healthy kids, deworming and the feeding of bagged concentrates.Once your goats start eating concentrates your profits start to fall.Your production overhead (related costs) plays an important role as well as the health of your stock. Post by: Mustang Sally Farm on January 07, 2011, 04:44:33 AM here in N.America we have been seeing boar sires crossed with saanens and other milk breeds going to the meat market. Also there is a small demand for day old kids for the meat market as some ethnic groups perfer this type of young meat.
the 3 way cross has been ongoing in the Philippines for some time now. |
