2  LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: RESTRICTED vs. AD LIBITUM FEEDING. Any difference? on: December 23, 2008, 01:50:20 PM
doc.

Rain,hi,the barns are 7feet high, easy cleaning. The flooring is plastic with holes for drainage. One can use bamboo, but it must be kept very clean. We have found that after a few years the bamboo will smell due to the goats pee, thats the reason we now use plastic, easier to clean. Each goat has its own stall, approx 5feet long by 4 feet wide,20 square feet, some are 5x5,25 square feet. The bucks have their own pens 5x5 feet, they only join the females for breeding, they due exercise outside tho.The barns are 16 feet wide and 40 feet plus long.the walkway is 6 feet wide. The roof is metal and designed to let the warm air out.The sides are wood and bamboo.Hope this helps.

Looking at the net, this is the scientific name of napier Pennisetum purpureum.

other grass:
guinea grass - panicum maximum
para grass - brachiaria mutica
alabang x -dicanthium aristatum

If you will buy a gilt from a breeding farm always ask if there is a warranty.

Warranty means that if your animal does not get pregnant or always reheat (naglandi uli after ipabulog) then they will replace it.

Also ask for a pedigree (history of the animal/lineage) Most reputable farm have this.

If you have a limited budget then you could buy from semi-commercial farms fatteners that could be raised as  gilts. I do believe that there are still semi-commercial farms that are willing to help new raisers. The drawback in buying from semi commercial is that they do not offer warranty.

Things to consider:

The animal came from a sow with a good record.
Legs should be without deformity.
It should also have a good FCR.
Growth rate, if the animal averages 85 kg above in 150 days is a good candidate.

hi doc..
good day po,pano naman po yung sa mga backyardraisers anu po yung palatandaan ng magandang kalase ng inahin thank you po doc.....

Rain,On our farm,we start to deworm the baby goats at 1 month of age,30 day cycle, then every 3 months in the dry season, 30 day cycle, but during the rainy season we deworm every 60 days for a 30 day cycle, every other month.I have found the Fenbendazole is good for liver flukes, worms of the liver,Albendazole, broad spectrum, either by injection or in the drinking is the dewormer we use. There are different dewormers on the market.Maybe Doc. Nemo knows of some other brand names.Goats that are not dewormed on a regular bases are goats that will not perform well for their producer.

15  LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: Only in the philippines on: April 06, 2008, 03:53:37 PM
