LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: Starting a swine business.

A blessed day, gentlemen. i'm Paolo, an office employee residing in Pampanga & i'm very much interested in this DBS system. I've started my backyard piggery this year as a second source of income. I started with 7 fatteners, sold 6 of them & decided to keep the one female pig para ipa AI at paanakan. My pig pen has an inclined concrete flooring & relatively small (approximately 2m X 4m) & i would like to ask some advise to convert it into DBS, whether to remove the concrete flooring, or to push thru in putting the recommended apportionment of the rice hull/sand, etc or if it would be ideal to expand it. Since we also have mango trees in our area, is it advisable to use mango leaves as bedding? Also does DBS really prevent/reduce the pig odor/smell occurence? I'm also wary of neighbors who would complain due to the smell, especially when the time comes when the sow would give birth by Jan 2011. During the time of the 7 fatteners, i got some complaint (from 1 neighbor) about the smell, although i've been religiously keeping the pigpen clean (using the "dakot system) & kami mismo, wala naman kami naaamoy. Is there a certain "radius" or periphery" so that the pig smell would not reach the neighbors? Looking forward to your advice as this will really be a big help. My deepest appreciation. - Paolo

Sir Nemo,
Thank you very much for responding to my previous e-mail. I would like to ask some additional queries:
a. mga ilang araw ang edad ng mga native chick yung pupwede na silang ilabas sa kulungan nila at hayaang lumaki outside?
b. from your previous email, nasabi mo doc na after two weeks, pwede ng pakainin ng kahit ano. me marerecommend ba kayo na feed, ngayon kasi ginagawa ko is thunderbird chick booster for a month, then mixed grains na ung pinapakain na namin.
c. mga ilang araw yung edad ng native chick yung kinakailangan na nakailaw pa rin sila?
d. pwede ba gamitin yung bagaso as feed?me binibigay kasi dati yung father ko, i'm not sure kung bagaso yun, pero namatay halos lahat ung mga chicks due to constipation.
Thank you, Sir Nemo & looking forward for your reply.
Kind regards, Paolo

Sir Nemo,
Thank you very much for sending thru the attachments. I would like to ask the following:
a. pareho lang ba yung pag aalaga sa mga native chickens as to raising 45 day chickens? b. ano po ba yung maganda o commercially profitable na broiler/layer breed? c. profitable po ba to raise native chickens?yun kasi yung existing na inaalagaan sa bahay ng father ko? d. can i also give the same kind of chicken feeds to young ducks, or meron ibang type of feeds for ducks? e. at this time, binibigyan ko ng thunderbird chick booster for day-a month old native chicks at thunder bird stag developer for a month+ old chicks. tama lang po ba ito, or there's another economical way of giving feeds?
Maraming salamat uli, Dr. Nemo for giving technical advice to many people, especially those new to the agri-industry including myself, & looking forward for your response. God bless you always.
Kind regards, Paolo

Sir Nemo,
Blessed day, sir. Could I also ask for a starter guide in poultry raising? My father has been raising livestock & has a number of native chickens, ducks & doves in our backyard, and I would like to influence him to consider making poultry raising not only just as a hobby/pasttime but to make it a profitable venture. I would like to ask also some technical advise/business management to help further in raising native chickens. Here's my email address: paolo_quilala@yahoo.com
Thanks & God bless.
Regards, Paolo
