LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: Swine flu in the Philippines
|
on: May 01, 2009, 03:38:12 AM

Thursday, April 30, 2009 4:44 AM From: "Leah B. Dorado" <leah.dorado@pic.com>Add sender to Contacts To: undisclosed-recipientsMessage contains attachmentsNorth American Influenza advice 2009-0429.pdf (47KB)Hi,
In response to growing public concern on reports of the so-called swine flu outbreak, attached file here encapsulates key facts about the influenza (which should be aptly termed “North American influenza A” or H1N1), precautionary measures for human health, and PIC biosecurity procedures for pig health.
“Swine flu” is a wrong name for this new strain that has been causing confusion and unnecessary concerns on pork products and swine herd. The Office International des Epizooties, commonly known OIE or World Organization for Animal Health, has already released statements that the current influenza, because it contains avian and human components and because no pig has been found ill, should be accurately called the “North American Influenza” based on its geographic origin.
To date, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that it has not found any evidence to indicate that any of the illnesses occurring in the US and Mexico resulted from contact with pigs. Influenza is a respiratory health issue and is in no way transmissible via food products.
We hope you pass this on to minimize the risk to ourselves, our business partners and customers, and to rectify widely-spread misinformation on pork products and swine herd.
Regards,
Leah B. Dorado
Marketing Officer
