Dr Nemo, Good day to you. Hope you dont mind me asking a number of questions..
I came across this site a week ago and decided to be a member... also tried reading some forum topics and believed to be educational and interesting read... congrats for having a strong site involving livestocks...
Now, I am planning to be a contract grower for Monterey... but before proceeding.. I need to learn at least some foundation about this business... Though I am interested in fattening... My plan is to have the minimum number of 660 as per Monterey requirement. My first sets of questions involves housing... Do I need to follow the ideal 3x4 or 4x5 layout when setting up the fattening pens? What can be a better way of constructing the pen with cost efficiency? Is 1 hectare of land really necessary for a 660 hogs? (I'm thinking that 2 sqm/head will only requires me < 1400 sqm of land plus waste management area (not sure about the size) and another house area for the labor group 3 guys plus warehouse of feeds. 5000 sqm might suffice or will it not?)... Speaking of which, waste management is also a concern, your suggestion on how costly the setup might be is highly appreciated. Another question is what can be the typical farm equipments required and how much might these equipments cost?
Thanks in advance.
