1  NATURAL FARMING / ORGANIC FARMING / Warren Tan: The Wiz of Natural and Organic Farming on: July 15, 2012, 01:21:32 AM
After a stint at various private corporations' IT, sales and marketing divisions, Warren Tan, 34, delved into the realm of natural and organic farming.

He learned under the expert tutelage of Gil Carandang of Laguna, Pam Henares of Bacolod, Andry Lim of Davao, and Dr. Pam Hernandez of UP, Los Banos. To further widen his horizon, he attended continued education certificate programs at PSI (Purposeful Stewardship Institute) in Makati.

After several years of working at various farm projects -- growing fruits and vegetables, and raising livestock and free range native chickens the natural and organic way -- Warren Tan is now a most sought-after consultant in the creation and building of completely sustainable natural and organic farms in the country.

His definition of organic is simply sustainable, natural and zero chemical.  He abhors those farming romantics who lack a disciplined focus on the bottom line. He stresses instead an entrepreneurial approach; that is, by being pragmatic and practical always -- whether the project is small or large. He suggests, one must always ask, “Where is the money in all of this?"

The following is an example of a small scale but highly profitable project he had created:

G Foods Farm
Tondo, Manila
1,000 square meters
Working farm – fruits and vegetables (500 kilos), livestock (105 pigs), poultry (1,500 native chickens), aqua (2,500 red tilapia)
Daily minimum net income: P10,000.00
Farm also has a function room that sits 50 people
Visitor's fee: P1,000.00 (includes seminar, lunch and snack)
Cost of project to build: 4 million pesos
Owners: Flerida Dy, MD and Darwin Dy, MD

Among the large scale projects he is currently working on: . . .

There will be a Natural Farming Training Seminar to be held on July 5, 6, and 7, 2012 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) at Bohol Coco Farm in Libaong, Panglao , Bohol.

This seminar is a direct response to the challenges that farmers are coping with, such as the increasing costs of crop fertilizers and livestock feeds.  Moreover, this seminar will touch upon the various methodologies that are useful for those seriously considering entering the profitable natural faming business – retirees, OFWs and those with vast land holdings who want to turn their idle properties into extra income-generating operations.

Participants will learn the techniques to culture their own indigenous microorganisms and produce their own fertilizers and feeds without using harmful and costly chemicals.

The seminar fee is P6,000.00 which includes  meals and snacks, accommodation, training manual and DVD.  In addition, out of town participants will be provided transportation to and from Tagbilaran Airport or Tagbilaran port.
