It is called artificial insemination, in this process the semen of the boar is collected and divided into 5-10 parts and this is then deposited to the cervix of the sow to conceive. In this way one boar can service 10 sow or less in just one load.
The pig which black and with white strip around its breast is called a hampshire.

LIVESTOCKS / POULTRY / Re: Feasibility of Poulty business

To be honest im not into poultry but to give you an idea:
The FCR(yun dami na pagkain para tumimbang sila ng isang kilo) of poultry is around 1.8 kgs. Current cost of day old chicken is around 23-28 pesos. average cost of feed per kilo is 15-22 pesos.
So if you're target weight is around 1.6 kgs you need around 2.88 kgs of feeds (1.6kg x 1.8 feeds).
2.88 * 18 pesos price of feeds(assumption) = 51.84 pesos cost of feed
51.84 price of feeds +28.00 price of chick 10.00 medicine -------- 89.84 total cost production / 1.6 kg target weight
=56.15 per kilo liveweight break evenpoint. All of thisbase on my assumption. Kalimitan kasi ng kilala ko is into contract grower.
In terms naman po sa gusto nila sa nangingitlog na manok. Ang masasabi ko lang po ang laying animal is for expert people or may malaking puhunan. Mas mabilis po kasi ang pagkalugi at pag angat sa business na laying. And medyo sensitive sila sa weather.

This is a simple ROI to guide you in this business.
10 piglets, you would not hire a worker, 4 months harvest/sale and will load again after 1 month.
20 000= for housing(alot 2t per head) this is a decent housing you can use other materials like bambo, cocolumber to lessen the cost.
18 000= cost of 10 piglets(farm price) 36 000= cost of feeds (average of 4 sacks per animal at 900). 500 = medication(vitamins etc) 800 = electricity and water( 200 per month). -------- 55 300 total investment( housing is not included
target weight 85 kgs at 75 pesos liveweight x 10 animal =63750
63750 -55300/10= 5530 cost to produce per head ---------- sales 8450= or [845 per head/5530]/100=15.28%
20 000= housing 8 450=sales (after 4 months) -------------- -11 550= to be recovered 8 450= 2nd harvest( 5 months after 1st harvest included is 1 month rest to disinfect housing) ------------ - 3 100= to be recovered 8450= 3rd harvest (5 months after 2nd harvest) --------- 5 350 income
so it would take around 1 year and 2 months before you recover your investment. to be safe you could say after 1-2 years your business should be earning. In large farm it is estimated that ROI is around 2-3 years.
note: liveweight of hog range from 70 to 90 pesos this year.
Dimension of housing 0.8-1 square meter per animal. You could make a 3x4 dimension so you could load up to 12 piglets Height of the pen is 1 meter. If you are facing the pen the width is 4 meter and this part should contain the feeder. Flooring should be slanted a little so water could drain in the opposite side of the feeder. Like all business it is a risk pero gaya nang sabi nila alang yumayaman sa pagiging empleyado lang. Try to survey for price of feeds in your area and current liveweight then try to use it to make your own ROI. Iba iba area kasi iba iba ang range ng feeds and liveweight. Try to communicate sa mga backyard sa area nyo para makakuha kayo ng additional idea.

Sir mikey,
Is it safe to say that you are more into piglets production rather than fattening. How many sow currently do you have.
If you like i could try to formulate a sow diet that you could use and try it first in one of your sow(form breeding to farrowing) if it would give you a good result then it is up to you to continue. Hope in this way it could cut your cost in swine production. Although please give me time to do it. Im a little busy right now.
To have an estimate for construction of your barn some expert in the field of swine allocate 40t per sow. I do believe included here is the cost of the sow, gestating stall, farrowing pen and housing.

TO make crumble is a little bit difficult because of the machine needed.
There are some raisers today who is trying alternative feeds like mixing their own. Yes it will grow also but the problem is it will make the harvest time of the animal more longer Instead of 5 months it would take around 6-7 months.
Is it ok to ask if you are from Canada or other country than the Philippines? SO i could address your inquiry more accurately
Thanks

I am not that good in nutrition but i could give you a formula taken from one of the books in goat farming here.
Corn = 12 kgs ricebran=24kgs Copra=40 kgs soy meal=8 kg meat and bone= 10 kgs molasses= 5 kgs salt= 1kgs
it should be given at 0.2-0.8 kg per head

Greetings!
Yes the article is more of American.
Curently our country is in its infant stage in developing the goat industry. We are still upgrading the stocks here. Some are importing from Astralia and this are now currently being acclimatized in our country.
