Lagoons must be also maintained. YOu have to put some plant like kangkong. Put some filter like charcoal and sand and you must have an aerator to kill the bacteria.

So the idea is that solid part should stay in the biogas digester to create methane then the excess water will be directed to different layers of lagoon. THe first could be layers of sands then second layer would be activated charcoal then the last will be  aerated to kill bacteria.  THen you could put kangkong on top of the water so it would absorbs some excess nutrients from the water.

THen the semisolid part that was trapped by the sands will be sun dried and can be use as fertilizer

Yes it is okay to put a septic tank. I do believe that biogas digester are the advance form of septic tank.

In huge farm they put a septic tank or digester and then a lagoon where the excess water would go. THe design of the septic tank is the same as what we use in our CR. IT is just a big box type of excavation that would vary depending upon the number of your animal.

Proper disposal of manure is a must to minimize the smell of your farm. SOme put biogas digester. OThers put activited charcoal in the manure so it will absorb the odor. Some feeds are added with yucca extract by the manufacturer so the manure of the pig will give less odor. Some would dry the manure using the heat from the sun. So every time the animal will defecate they will scoop it and put directly under the sun.

The less the moist in your pen the less the smell of the farm. So always put the drinker near the gutter area and not in front of the pen.

Pilmico is the maker of Farmer's edge feeds. It is used to be known as PMI feeds. Their plant is located ng Tarlac and i consider them as one of the elite brands like ACE, BMEG, CJ, PURINA, and ROBINA.

The mother company is aboitiz.

I cannot see any disadvantage in converting your gestating to farrowing pen the only question is that by doing so would it not mean you have less gestating pen? Does the remaining gestating pen would be enough for your sows?

Usually in a well program farm the ratio is in every 10 sow you need around 3-4 farrowing and 7 gestating pen.

6128  LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: tamang capital sa pag-aalaga ng baboy on: September 17, 2007, 05:40:36 PM
Capital for swine business depends in the number of sow or pigs you want to raise. Older studies suggest that capital for 1 sow is around 40thousand. This include housing, animal etc. To be safe adjust this to 50t per sow. This computation is up to the time the animal will become pregnant, farrowed and your piglet be sold.

If you intend to keep your piglet and raise it as a slaughter  hog you need an additional 3500-4200 per animal for feeds and around 2000t per animal for pen construction.

I would send you an simple cost and return. To give you an idea.
6129  LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: sir nemo.. help me pls on: September 17, 2007, 05:22:30 PM
THe 12t sow are around 5-6 months old and a boar from a large breeding farm would cost 25T.
6130  LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: sir nemo.. help me pls on: September 16, 2007, 09:07:15 PM
Mikey usually sow that range from 12t upward is purebreed or hybrid and yes they provide data regarding the animal. And most of the time they provide warranty that if the sow continues to reheat and does not conceive they they will replace it.

I would say it is an investment rather than a risk.

Nowadays 12t sow is the cheapest purebreeds you can find. some sow would cost you up to 35-60t.

6132  LIVESTOCKS / Small ruminant (sheep and goat) / Re: Goat estrus on: September 14, 2007, 09:59:53 PM
I'm no expert in goat but to my knowledge after kidding and weaning it would take 7 days to one month before a goat could be bred again. To those who are into goat business correct me if im wrong.

So they say that every 7 months you will have a kid.
5 months pregnancy, one month milking, one month to bred again.

The success of the business depends on the person managing it.

I do believe that If you believe you can and have faith in God you will succeed.

The bright side about raising pigs today is that because of the outbreak that happen in bulacan and neuva ecija prices of slaughtered hogs will go up from november until summer. Just hope there would be no smuggled pork.

So, it a promising christmas and new year for swine raiser.

can I request for the contact details and exact address of the farm you mentioned.
