As of now because there are only few pure breeds of goats the price are still high. There are now some people who is trying to acclimatize and breed this goats so price would go down. Although we are still a long way from there.
Pure breed cows are also expensive although rather than import this breeds our government import semen and use it to propagate the breds to the farmers. There many farmers now that have benefited from this upgrades.

Mr Hog, Just an idea,
Autogasmanila do convertion of gasoline engine to lpg run engine. Since lpg and biogas is somewhat the same why not ask this company if they can fit your farm with a convertion kit which uses biogas. In theory i think they would not have any problem at all fitting it to your needs.
So, the next problem you need to address is fitting the engine to the generator. But i do think you can solve it much easier.

LIVESTOCKS / BREEDING / Re: Cross breeding...

Cross breeding a F1 x duroc= usually fattener or slaughter hogs.
If your boar is pure duroc= piglet should be atleast 50% colored,
F1= result of breeding of two different breeds of pig ex. largewhite x landrace, largewhite x duroc etc.
F1 sow = usually landrace x largewhite. You can buy Grand parent stock or parent stock sow and boar from reputable company. Cost would range from 20-60t
boar= usually duroc or pietrain.
NOte: The most important part of breeding is not the breed itself but the performance of the animal. Always ask for performance record of every sow you bought.

Thank you Mikey, appreciated it.
That is the problem in early weaning, mortality. So most give concentrate to increase the bulk of their animal and TLC.
Compared to sow goat have longer gestation and very few litters. Its gestation is around 5 months and it will only farrow 1-2 kid. That is why some are weaning it in a month to compensate. Althoug, i may not sure now a days how they do it in bigger goat farm.
Goat milk is considered subtitute to human milk because of less allergic reaction to this milk.
There are now meat type hybrid for sale in the philippines but it would cost around 45t.

Corn is a source of energy and if this energy is not utilized it would be converted to fat.
Now i know why they are located in mannitoba.
It is really a problem if you're place is that close to a 1000 sow etc level farm. Especially if they this regard people near-by. For sure in terms of waste management Canada has a better science compared to other country. So hope that farm near-by your place would invest in swine management

You could do that by adding a detachable wing/side for the gestating pen. Sort of expansion siya. Yun natatangal na part and siyang lagayan ng kulig. Or kung magkatabi naman ang 2 gestating pen at bakante isa pwede mo lagyan ng harang paikot yung dlawang gestating pen para magsilbing farrowing pen.

Mikey,
yes the rainy season would be a problem for farms with lagoon. Most probably the open lagoon in Canada you mentioned does not have a biogas digester. Countries with cold whether does not have a good success rate in building digester for it need a little heat to enhance the production gas and activity of bacteria. Countries in the tropic like the Philippines have this kind of weather so it advantageous for those who want to build a biogas digester.
Isn't it most farm in Canada is almost isolated from near-by houses? I have a friend who is now working in Canada and he said the farm is almost in the middle of nowhere. If i an not mistaking he is in mannitoba.
Mr. Hog,
I haven't seen a operational biogas with a generator. I have this uncle who has a farm with this kind of set up. He have 300 sows and his farm produce enough electricity his entire farm is run by the electricity from his digester. I have plan to visit his farm but i do not have the time to do so.
The basic component would be a generator, a engine (car, multicab or even a truck engine) a reservoir of the gas. The basic principle is that there is a regulator placed between the reservoir and engine so there would be a constant flow of gas to the intake of the engine. The engine would run in a constant revolution that could maintain the revolution requirement of the generator to produce energy. The engine is connect to the transmission and then the transmission is connected to the generator.

Mikey thank you for correcting the post location, i'm to business did not notice that it was posted in the poultry section.
Body condition is the key factor when the animal would return to heat. The longer your animal is milked the longer it would take to return to heat especially if everyday nutrition is not met.
Milking goat is not yet that booming in this country. In fact the whole dairy business still dependent to about 99% import to other country like new zealand, australia etc.
Goat is here more about meat production. That is why weaning is shorter to give way to a earlier return to heat and in return.
Yes, it is true goat are very susceptible to cold whether not only the kid but the older ones.
