107  LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: Flushing in gilts on: February 08, 2008, 07:13:45 AM
Terminology:  standing heat:This it the time on which a gilt or a sow becomes receptive to a boar/
                                       Nagpapabulog na siya.
Flushing

Flushing is done to a gilt to increase the release of eggs in its ovaries.
This is done by increasing the feed intake 10-14 days prior to standing heat.

How to do it:

Usually we breed the sow at 7-8 months of age or if it has already stood to heat 2-3 times.

So, if the animal first heat is around 6 months you need to count 21 days to its second heat.  Then another 21 days to its third heat.

At the start of the second heat count 11 days and when that day comes increase the feed intake of the animal.

And at its next heat (around 10 days later) you can then breed it already.

Doc,
Ilang kilong feeds po ba ang ipapakain sa GIlt 11 days after second heat?

You could always hear that native hog taste better or different from commercial farm.

So, why is it?

One factor is diet. natives eats what their body needs. You can see them unroots plants etc. because they are looking for foods that are necessary to their needs.

Some natives are confined and given scraps yet they taste also good. They taste good because they can move and roam freely. When a animal moves regularly or exercise regularly its muscle and fats are marbling.  Marbling means in a simple english they have alternating fats and muscle. This alternating fats and muscle creates a good flavor for the animal. Fats and oil are sources of flavor for plants and animal.

Commercial farms create this marbling effect by using meat enhancer in their feed.

If you want your hog taste like native pig.
1. Diet - What are my hog's body needs? What kind of CHO, CHON, FAT?  Undecided
2. Move and roam freely - Maybe make big pen for fattening like HOOP BARN  Cry
3. Fats and oil are sources of flavor - Should i give nuts or palm oil to my hogs?  Roll Eyes
4. Using meat enhancer to the feed - Should i add a tenderizer like McCormic?
Shocked

do you know why filipino pipol dont like the taste of white hog?

112  LIVESTOCKS / SWINE / Re: price per kg on: February 05, 2008, 01:30:09 PM
Hi Slyfox,
Kung hindi kayo makapenetrate ang gensan ng pork bound to manila, syempre mas marami supply ng baboy dito sa Gensan. Bakit kaya tumataas din ang presyo ng gensan kahit maraming supply?

na normalize na po last week pa hindi mo ba nakita sa ABS-CBN ang coverage ng gensan group talking with director yap.WE should thank Solid shipping lines for not shipping gensan hog to manila for 2 weeks. Ayan tumaas kaagad ang presyo natin. without gensan hog ewan ko na lang what well happen to our country. dito lang ninyo malalaman kung gaano kalaki ang Gensan Hog industry. Taga polomolok ka man din bro diba hindi mo ba na pansin halos lahat ng feedmiller and contract grower nandito na sa gensan. Bakit kaya? hmmmmmmmmmm

Hi Slyfox,

If Gensan cannot penetrate pork bound to manila, ofcourse the supply here in gensan will increase. if there's an increase in supply in gensan why the price of pork in gensan is also increase?

It normalizes last week. Didn't you see on the news of ABS-CBN, the gensan group are talking with Director Yap? We should thank Solid shipping lines for not shipping Gensan hog to Manila for 2 weeks, and because of that the price of pork increase in a blink of an eye. Here you will know how big Gensan in terms of Hog industry. You are also in plomolok, am i right? And didn't you notice almost all of feedmiller and contract grower are here in gensan? Why is it? hmmmmmmm

Hi Mickey,
I thought i saw a boer kid, but i noticed that the kid i saw is anglo nubian, because it has no horn and it's too big for his age. I compare the pics of boer and anglo nubian, they have the same long ears with roman nose. I do not if it's a boer or anglo nubian, it's very difficult to see the difference. Which is more expensive the boer or anglo nubian?

Mickey,
Hi, how will i deworm the newly weaned kid? Should i mix it with the grass or to their water? What brand of deworming did you use? When the seller bring the kid to our farm i saw the kid eating grass, but the seller told me that the kid is still drinking milk to his mother.
116  LIVESTOCKS / CATTLE, CARABAO, GOAT & SHEEP / Re: Kid Care Till Weaning: on: February 03, 2008, 05:07:48 PM
Mickey, how many months should the young kids wean to their mother?  is it right to buy 2 mos old kid? After i buy the kid, should i quarantine it for two weeks?
117  LIVESTOCKS / CATTLE, CARABAO, GOAT & SHEEP / Re: Beginners Guide to Raising Sheep: on: February 03, 2008, 04:20:07 PM
is there a purebred boer color dark brown with very big ears (2 mos. old)?  I saw the pics of alaminos goatfarm and i've noticed that their boer have the same color (brown head and the rest is white). There's a seller on our farm and they're selling the dark brown goat, i just wanna know if that is a pure boer buck. it's a dark brown with big ears and very big for 2 mos. old.
