In terms of smell, less smell.
Water consumption is also less, you don't need to clean the pen.
You need also to maintain a certain moisture and good bacteria in the pen. So you need to apply beneficial bacteria regularly.
The technology is there but it is not for everyone especially for starters in the backyard raising business.
There have been numerous write ups about this, mostly positive. But negative results are seldom published.

doc,
ask ko lang kung puede ba mag-alaga ng baboy kahit walang kuryente? palakihin lang naman ung biik at ibenta. no problem sa tubig kasi galing sa bukal at concrete naman ung kulungan.
thanks, alex

Yup it is okay.
Electricity is for the convenience of the caretaker naman sana pero even if wala nito as long as you could provide food, shelter and water to the animal then it will grow.

doc,
thanks for d advice and sending me "fattening simple roi". you've mentioned that the pigs will consume 4.5-5 bags of feeds til they reach 85kgs. ask ko lang doc, kung anong magandang feeding program para ma-attain ko ung 85kgs. within 4months? at anong dapat na timbang o age ng piglets ang dapat kung bilihin yung medyo safe na cla alagaan? mas maganda ba na puro feeds lang ba ibigay ko sa kanila o puede ko rin haluan ng darak or leftovers food?

feeding guide should be from the company ng pinagbilan nyo ng feeds. And usually ang baboy kakain ng 200-250 kg ng feeds bago mabenta
