Title: CARBOHYDRATES Post by: nemo on February 02, 2008, 09:19:50 PM Carbohydrates provide energy for the metabolic processes. Digestion of carbohydrates will produce glucose, fructose, and galactose. Fructose and galactose are converted to glucose. Glucose is the sugar circulating in the blood and it is what the cell utilize as the main form of carbohydrates. It is also the precursor of lactose in the mammary gland.
Glucose – it is sometimes referred as dextrose. It is about ¾ as sweet as cane sugar. Fructose- it is the sweetest of all sugar. Found primarily in ripe fruits and honey. Galactose-obtained along with glucose upon thehydrolysis of lactose or milk sugar Title: Re: CARBOHYDRATES Post by: mikey on February 03, 2008, 11:53:08 AM Doc,
