-normal goat temp. is 102.5-104 degrees F,above normal temp,is a indication of infection,below normal temp. is often fatal,always take a goats temp. rectally.
-Judy Muskas recipe for Poisoned goats,1 litre water,1 teaspoon ginger,1/2 teaspoon baking soda,1/2 teaspoon salt,1 teaspoon molasses,1 tablespoon epsom salts,give entire mixture to adult goat,for a young or small goat give as much as you can comfortably get down,give slowly,do not get into lungs.
-check behind goats eartags for ticks,favorite hiding place for ticks.
-after kid has bonded with the dam,slather petroleum jelly around anus to prevent feces from sticking to anal opening,check kids frequently as feces can clog anal opening and cause the kid to be unable to poop.
-cracked corn is easier than whole kernel corn on the goats stomach.
-dip the kids feet in iodine,after dipping the naval cord to prevent infection.
-use cheap toothpaste like soap to wash your hands of buck smell after handling them.
-a 13 ounce coffee can holds 1 pound of goat feed.
-deworm doe 3 days after kidding if the doe was not dewormed during pregnancy.
-if you give large doses of antibiotics for several days,you may kill off the good bacteria in the goats stomach which aids in the digestion process,good idea to give a probiotic paste,natural yogart or buttermilk to reactivate these bacteria.
