Reproductive Problems in Bucks

Your buck is not breeding, and you want to know why.Any number of conditions may exist that are affecting his ability to breed. The most common situation that results in a buck not breeding is that the does he is with are not coming into heat (cycling)>some goat breeds mate seasonally espically dairy and dairy-crosses.Malnutrition is a major factor in the bucks ability to breed.Malnutrition, as used here, refers to quality not quantity of feed and forage.Do not overlook minerals specifically made for goats. The buck will loose interest in feeding during the breeding season,so he needs to be in top condition when placed with does.Too thin or too fat is not good.Evaluate your nutritional program before breeding season begins.Check the BCS chart.

A buck that will not servise is often dietary, the minerals in his tucker are not in balance.Copper, iodine and phosphorus, vitamin A are necessary for a working buck. One way to ginger him up is to give him KELP powder. The dose for an adult buck is 4 teaspoons twice daily for only 1 week,no longer or you could give him copper poisoning.Do your best to get it into his mouth, this will not be easy.
