Important to recognize that the principles and problems associated with raising goat kids are no different from raising other farm animals. The beginner who is raising only a few animals in a place where kids never been housed will have fewer problems than those raising large numbers of kids in the same building for many years. It follows, that the system of management used in the early years of raising goats may not give the same results 3-4 years later, where kid numbers increase and the pens have been in constant use.Pens should be cleaned, sanitized and left  vacant for as long as possible between each batch of newborn kids.Raising kids in small portable pens or hatches has been useful in preventing kid losses due to diseases that have become a problem in long established goat herds.
