Purebred-offspring of 2 purebred parents of the same breed (15/16)
Crossbreed-each parent of a different breed
Upgrading-use purebreed buck as sire, goat is to breed for specific traits
Grade-breeding a purebreed buck to an ordinary doe
Mongrel-breeding using parents of unknown, unimproved or grade ancestory
Backcross-breeding daughters to fathers/sons to mothers
Inbreeding:
breeding of closely related animals, buck being bred to seccessive generations of female decendants, doe to succeeding male descendants generally believed inbreeding results in poor reproductive fitness, lack of vigor, reduced performance.
Lack of Vigor:
poor performance, offspring may become smaller with each generation. One should guard against this, what if you are trying to increase milk output and inbreeding accommmplishes that goal, then this is a good thing.
Crossing of different inbred line results in vigorous hybrids, some of the greatest advances in livestock breeding have been created this way.
Linebreeding:
breeding animals with related ancestory with an outstanding trait. One should realize that bad traits as well as good traits will be emphasized.
One should never ever breed full brothers and sisters together, half brothers to half sisters is also known as linebreeding.
