Title: Philippine hybrid:Is One Planned For The Future
Post by: mikey on November 23, 2007, 06:55:14 AM
There are some who believe that a dual/purpose goat (dairy/meat) will be breed sometime in the future.Producers will always wish to breed a better quality goat with the proper production traits ,able to handle the Philippine tropical weather and the rainy season.Dual purpose only makes sense, considering the country imports most dairy products.Money can be made or lost if one was to breed this goat with all the production traits necessary for the marketplace. Many, many, many years of selective breeding will be needed before we may see this happen.I hope to see it happen some day, good luck to whoever is sucessfull.

Region#7 update. We have now gathered a small herd of F1s angloXnative does (12) to be bred to a terminal sire (boer). We will be interested in the milk yields of these girls, should the milk yield fall below 1 litre daily per doe, we will try and breed with a alpine breed. The native girls are being bred to a bo-ang,the offspring selected will be bred to a alpine breed, then to a boer, this will make for a 4 breed hybrid with better milk yields. We are still experimenting and will take some time before we can draw any conclusions. With help from Vice Governor M. Pinol, importing some new anglo blood, this will help the goat industry as a whole as it appears that the new blood lines are a real welcome.
