Good day Doc Nemo,

I have three gilts naturally bred last June 10, 16 and 26 respectively. All gilts never returned to heat after they were bred. That being the case, I assume that they are all pregnant. However, I am not so sure if the last two gilts that were bred are actually pregnant. Unlike the first one which shows significant enlargement of its stomach and its teats, there were no significant or noticeable increase in its size. While expectedly the first one will be larger than those two bred later, i am expecting that the difference would be minimal since the difference in their breeding dates is only one to two weeks.

I am hoping that I would be able to test and confirm if the latter two are pregnant or not by injecting them with Gonadin. I am assuming that if they are pregnant, they would not manifest signs of heat becasuse they are pregnant and go to estrus even when injected with Gonadin. Is my assumption right or wrong? What would be the effect of injecting Gonadin to a pregnant sow/gilt? Would there be any negative side effect such as the possibility of miscarriage?

I am hoping that you will guide me accordingly on how to proceed. Many thanks in advance for your usual assistance.

There is always a possibility of miscarriage kapag nagiinject ka sa pregnant animal.

The problem with gonadin it is not 100% accurate. Even if you inject and the animal  does not return to heat it not necessary mean that the animal is pregnant....

Try to inject nalang 1 of the two animal. If it returns to heat then inject the other one. If it does return to heat better wait na lang for the farrowing date.

Meron kasing tinatawag na tiyan kabayo.... this sow/gilt does not show any sign of pregnancy but when the farrowing date comes bigla nalang manganganak.

Good day Doc Nemo,

We have one gilt that was bred last May 17, 2010. Since then the gilt didn't return to heat so we're expecting that it is already pregnant. I called the technician from the genetics farm, where we purchased the gilts, to please check the gilt. He used a pregnancy detector and it was detected pregnant. The expected farrowing date should be last September 8 but still there are no signs of pregnancy or farrowing. How can we make sure that it is really pregnant? I already told my auntie about the good news that the gilt is expecting to farrow september 8. What should we do?

Thanks and God bless..

sorry sa very late reply....
