GONADIN AND PG-600
«

Hi Doc Nemo,
Please educate us regarding the use of Gonadin or PG-600 on Gilt or Sow.
We know it is a hormone injected to gilt or sow so that it wiil come to
heat for breeding. My question are:
1. What is the timing of injecting Gonadin or PG-600 ?
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using Gonadin or PG-600 ?
Your answer to this query will enlighten us, specially we, as backyard raisers.
Thanks.

Timing? I would not say timing, it is more of indication/indicated for animal who did not heat or returned to heat. So, if it is a gilt sometimes it is use to boost the hormone in its body so it would be interpreted by the brain that the animal is already in heat. If the animal is already 8 month old, does not show any sign of heat and you do not want to dispose it , you could give hormone to force heat it. If the animal is already a sow and does not return to heat after 10-15 days after weaning you could already give hormonal treatment also.
Advantage: The animal will heat and hopefully after breeding it will become pregnant.
Disadvantage: The animal might be dependent / addicted to the hormone.

Hi Doc Nemo
If you have injected Gonadin to a Gilt, how many days is the effectiveness
of this hormone to the Gilt, so that it will come to heat ? If more than 2 days there is no effect,
the Gilt has a problem ? Can we decide to cull her ?

As per manufacturer label 3-6 days you could see result.
If there is no sign cull mo na.
You have already given the gilt all the chance.

Hi Doc,
Naguguluhan lang ako tungkol sa pag gamit nitong Gonadin.
Pag nag breed ka for 2nd parity gamit ang Gonadin, for example injected today and the
sow comes to heat the next day, dapat na ba mag AI ? o palampasin muna and wait for
the 2nd heat ? Maybe na confuse lang ako sa pag gamit ng Gonadin sa Gilt at Sow.
Please enlighten me Doc. Thanks.

The economical thing to do is to breed it already.
If it is 2nd parity, third etc already and you inject gonadin once it comes to heat better to bred it na.
----------
Some would suggest that wait for the 2nd heat to increase the number of ova inside the animal but the problem with this is that you are not sure whether the animal will heat after 21 days...

hi doc,
successful ang heat ng sow ko after 2 days of injecting gonadin 250. breed po nya is largewhite and i used landrace boar. and pinaulitan ko sya the next morning ng largewhite boar thinking na it is not normal heat, so kung me nabuo man sa unang boar, maiincrease pa rin ba ito by pagpapabulog on the next morning? is it bad using different boars - landrace & largewhite boars? i did this coz of my doubt na when you use gonadin kukunti ang magiging anak nito. thanks po.....

-------------------------------------
trans....
The reason there is small number of litters in animal that are given hormone is not because of the boar used but because this animal only released few eggs.
So, if it only released 6 eggs the most piglets you can produce is 6 whether you use 1 or more boar.
using 1 or more boar will increase the chance of the egg cells to be fertilized.
So, in simple analogy the more bullet you use the more probability you will hit the target.
