DA says ‘substandard’ chicken dangerous

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET -- The Department of Agriculture has warned consumers in the Cordillera against buying chicken culls (old or weak animals taken from a flock) since these are practically dead meat.
Pedro Jerry Baliang, DA assistant regional director, said the DA is alarmed at the unabated growth of live chicken trade in the region.
“The chicken culls sold openly are practically laden with antibiotics and growth medicine that would seriously make them dangerous and unfit for human consumption,” he said.
