AI for goats, maybe the answer for the future:

The swine AI program in the Philippines seems to be far more advanced than that for the goat industry. Most of the boer goats in the Philippines were imported from Australia (mostly commercial grades) and the U.S.A. premium grades. My main concern is,commercial grade or standard are goats that do not for some reason make the standards for that breed and tend to be better for the meat trade as opposed to the breeding business.Breeding animals should be animals of the highest quality and conform to that breed standard.I have not red anything from FGASPAPI about importing top of the line goat semen as a means to improve and diverse the gene pool.If one was able to import top semen from around the world, one has a better opportunity to improve ones herd/s.The goat AI program seems to be more regional, having a choice from the sire/s in that area. One problem we have found so far is,looking to buy goats from other farms only to find out the parents of the goat/s has come from a farm we have already bought goats from, the gene pool is becoming too limited. The ability to have a real choice in genetics, priceless. The cost of importing semen is for the most part expensive. Some places have a minimum number of straws and then the cost of the container that holds the dry ice.The price per straw varies from approx. $8.00 US to several hundreds US depending on genetic line.I have seen dairy goat semen starting at $5.00 US and up.The only way it might work would be to have multiple partners and divide up the straws. The partners would have to live in the same general area.Something to consider.

A-I timing,when to breed
life of deposited sperm is approx. 15-20 hours and the life of the egg is 6-12 hours. In general it comes down to hours of heat. Some will tell you the very best timing for A-I is between 22-30 hours when the doe is in her heat cycle. Before 22 hours might be too early and later than 30 hours might be too late. This is not always a given as a doe might take before 22 hours and she might take a little later than 30 hours but the thought is between 22-30 hours is the best in terms of timing.
